My name is Daniel Allen and I paint pictures with the air.

I am not a visual artist but instead a sound artist. The majority of my background in this has been within the realms of popular music. I have even enjoyed success in this field within Canada and the United States. Some notable achievements (but not limited to) are signing to Los Angeles record label Sargent House for a multi record deal (2012.) This led to touring North America in support of the albums, including opening for the internationally recognized Canadian band Billy Talent on a cross Canada stadium tour (2016.)  Although it may sound like a typical resume of a music artist, that is not the only place where my passion for creativity comes from.

Throughout my 25+ year career in music I have encountered people who work “outside” of medium, meaning they are more focused on the art of recording and less the standard tropes associated with making typical pop records. The relationships with these artists inspired (and continue too inspire) me to compose my own soundscapes and experimental records. Over the course of my career I have created an unofficial score to the film Frankenstein (1931.) The process of this long term project has taught me several things, but primarily this:

When composing a score you have to set the mood and emotion to the visuals you would see on the screen as well as the emotions of the character being played at times. It is the air within every frame that my art truly lives.

It is through this means of composition that I will create a soundtrack to the entire project.

Each composition would be my reflections/interpretations of the individual artists and the pieces that create. I would also compose and create with the assistance of items from Re-Store used as instruments. All these items also have their own story. That element of the recording will be my own little tribute to sustainability. As a parent of 3 children and man with an Indigenous background it is important to try model care for the planet by means of reusing and reducing the waste we put into it.
